Venice Bakery is a family-owned company with over 70 years of experience in the food industry, specializing in gluten-free, plant-based, and vegan pizza crusts. Established in 1953 in Venice Beach, California, the company was founded by brothers Nazzareno and Ignacio Palmeri, who immigrated from Sicily. They initially operated the Palmeri Pizza Crust Company in the Bronx before relocating to California, where they acquired the Venice Baking Company. In 1963, the business was passed on to their son-in-law, Anthony DeSisto, and later to his sons, James and Lorenzo DeSisto. In 2005, James partnered with Dr. Karima Hirani, a holistic medicine practitioner, to develop a gluten-free pizza crust for patients with autism. This initiative led to the creation of a gluten-free crust that is now enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of people annually. The company expanded its operations in 2012 to a 60,000-square-foot facility in Torrance, California, and later established a state-of-the-art, 100% gluten-free facility in Crest Hill, Illinois, to meet the growing demand for gluten-free products .
